Whether you are working with an implant that has an octagon, spline, or a hex (either
internal or external), here is an easy method to correctly align straight or pre-angled
abutments for final seating and crown cementation. On the model or master cast,
use a bur or marking instrument to score the top of the abutment on the buccal side.
Upon removal of the marked abutment from the model, it will be easy to re-align
the abutment chairside, by aligning the mark buccally to the patient. Note: The
Three-Piece Angled Abutments with the connector fittings for Screw-Vent, Tapered
Screw-Vent, Advent, and Taper-Lock implants offer 24 positions. The plastic seating
handle on the hex connector has a 20° angle so it can be used as a guide to
determine the optimum hex position seat for the angled head. These components should
definitely be marked or scored by the laboratory to facilitate the re-assembly in
the correct position chairside, by the clinician.
